Charte Sable en Seine / Seine Sand Charter

The Autonomous Port of Paris, UNICEM Ile-de-France, the SFIC, Point P and Raboni have undertaken to improve the environmental integration of port facilities.

The objective of this undertaking is to work on integrating the industrial facilities on the banks of waterways into the dense urban fabric, and to allow their long-term development in these times when local politicians, inhabitants, either individually or through associations, and the people of Ile de France in general are becoming increasingly demanding. These port facilities are necessary for the development of river transport for building materials, providing a clean form of transport (2.5 times less CO² emitted than road transport, per tonne transported).

Sable en Seine Charter II

Today, all the partners wish to move one step further forward in their commitment to the environment, by adopting a continuous improvement approach.

This new commitment set out in the "Sable en Seine 2" Charter provides for an independent body to measure the efforts made by the signatories of the Charter to preserve a high-quality environment for all, and to allow the preservation or even development of the signatories' activities on the land of the Autonomous Port of Paris, thereby preserving or developing river transport of goods. The companies that have signed the Charter are Cemex, GSM, Holcim, Lafarge, Point P, Raboni, SFB, SNB, Unibéton, Yprema…

In addition to the action provided for by the Charter, the integration of our ports into their environment merits a diversified approach encompassing urban, architectural and landscaping issues.

This approach has produced a number of initiatives to enhance and rehabilitate port zones:

  • consulting with local authorities to take account of their urban development plans and ensure that they also take account of port requirements;
  • preparing town planning and architecture proposals that take account of the specific qualities of the local urban fabric and its working;
  • drawing up master plans for sites to ensure that their development is consistent over time;
  • seeking to include the landscape dimension by implementing recommendations for development projects (open spaces, architecture, planting);
  • monitoring and supervising our clients' projects to guarantee the architectural quality of their future constructions.
