The Port Network
The Regional Network
The Ile de France network covers the whole of the region, providing distribution of materials within the region, imports and exports of goods, and the development of passenger transport. It is organised around 5 port agencies managing some 70 ports located along 500km of navigable waterways.
What is a Port Agency?
A port agency is an administrative entity responsible for developing the port or ports placed under its care. The local agencies within the Autonomous Port of Paris are:
- Gennevilliers Port Agency,
- Bonneuil-sur-Marne Port Agency,
- Central Port Agency,
- Boucles de la Seine Port Agency,
- Seine Upstream Port Agency.
What is a Multimodal Platform?
A multimodal platform is a port served by several modes of transport: waterways, maritime, rail, road and oil pipeline. There are 10 multimodal platforms in Ile-de-France: the 3 largest are Gennevilliers (Hauts-de-Seine), Bonneuil-sur-Marne (Val de Marne) and Limay (Yvelines). The Port also manages and is developing urban ports and landing stages for passenger boats.
The Port also manages and is developing urban ports (smaller, linear port facilities proving a local network for loading and unloading goods) and landing stages for passenger boats.
The Container Terminal Network
In response to the growth in container traffic on the Seine, estimated to be as much as 300% by 2020, the Port is developing a network of container terminals in Ile-de-France: the Gennevilliers terminal (Hauts-de-Seine) is being doubled in size, while three dedicated terminals are also being created in Bruyères-sur-Oise (Val d'Oise), Monetreau-Fault-Yonne (Seine-et-Marne) and Evry (Essonne).
